Bliss Bouldering and Climbing

David grew up in Norfolk Nebraska, the oldest of 4 children.  He met his wife, Sandra, during his senior year of high school and they were married two years later.  David moved to Omaha Nebraska where he attended first the University of Nebraska Omaha, graduating in 1985 with a BS in Biology, summa cum laude; and then went on to obtain his M.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine with honors.   David and Sandra moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1989 where he complete his family medicine residency at St Joseph’s Hospital.  He then opened a solo practice in South Wichita.

During this time, David and Sandra had four children, one girl and three boys. Joshua, their second child, sadly passed away from a childhood cancer at the age of 2.

In 2007, David founded Knight Vision Ministries, focusing on helping men reach their potential.  He authored and published three books and produced numerous conferences and speaking events.

David also found himself involved in numerous adventure type activities during these years, including jet ski racing, motocross racing, back country hiking and camping, trekking many of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks, and rock climbing.

David’s third oldest child, Caleb, took a particular interest in the latter: rock climbing.  He quickly established himself as one of the stronger climbers in the Midwest, ranking in the top 50 nationwide for his age group in the American Bouldering Series.  David became his primary coach and trainer.

Caleb, however, suffered from depression; and in 2012, he took his own life at the age of 19.  Obviously devastated, David and his family dedicated themselves to introducing the rest of the world to the sport that Caleb so loved. 

On November 27, 2015, Bliss Bouldering and Climbing Complex opened their doors in northeast Wichita.  While still practicing medicine, David’s primary focus has been on the success of the rock climbing gym that was named after his son Caleb’s favorite quote: ‘Follow Your Bliss”.
